Australia SS: Srikanth in SF while defending champ Saina & Sindhu ends campaign

IN A repeat of Singapore Super Series final in Australia SS quarters, Kidambi Srikanth avenged his defeat against compatriot Sai Praneeth. This match ended in two games 25-23, 21-17 as Srikanth continues his winning run.

It was a tough opening game where both shuttlers gave their all but Srikanth was just too good. The second game clearly favoured the Indonesia SSP winner.

He inches closer to lifting another SS title but it wouldn't be that easy as he will face 4th seed Shi Yuqi in the semis. If the Indian continues this momentum he will be able to overcome the Chinese too just like he has done in the past. These two have played against each other only once before at the Singapore SS and Srikanth won the match in straight games. This should give the Indian great confidence to repeat that feat.

On the other hand, women's singles shuttler PV Sindhu fought hard but lost to top seed Tai Tzu Ying in three games, 10-21, 22-20, 21-16. Sindhu won the opening game in just 15 minutes and it looked like she was ready to cause an upset by beating Tai.

But the shuttler from Chinese Taipei had other plans, made Sindhu sweat for the points in the second game. Great smashes from Sindhu helped her get points but then followed by errors cost her the game.

Tai's net play was outstanding as it helped her win the final game and eventually the match.

Defending champion Saina Nehwal went down fighting against Chinese Sun Yu in a hard fought three games 21-17, 10-21, 21-17.

Sun won the opening game but Saina came back strong to win the second with ease. It was a close contest in the final game but the Indian was leading at the interval.

It then came a point where the scores were levelled at 15-15 after which the Chinese won 5 straight points to make it 20-15. Then Saina won following two points but it was too late to get back as Sun Yu won the game and the match.
