Can't expect Kumble & Kohli to be on the same page, says Gavaskar

INDIA GREAT Sunil Gavaskar has played down the report about a fallout between Indian players and head coach Anil Kumble.

With Kumble’s contract expiring after Champions Trophy 2017, the BCCI recently opened applications for the India chief coach role. Following the advertisement, there has been a buzz in the media about a rift between Kohli and Kumble.

However, Gavaskar believes that there is nothing unusual with a skipper and coach having differences over a few issues. Gavaskar said that the duo ought to have different views as they belong to different eras.

"You will never have a situation when the captain and coach of any country is on the same page. It is impossible for that to happen because the coach had played in the earlier generation and that's why the approach may be slightly different from the current generation. It might not be something actually happening on the field – it could be something to do with practice sessions or team combinations. I don't think that should be taken too seriously because these discussions are healthy for the team."

Kumble has had a brilliant run of results as a coach, helping the men in blue win all five Test series since his appointment in June last year. And, the ‘Little Master’ feels that he has done perfectly well as a coach.

"Kumble has done a very good job as coach. I am simply going by the results and when you go by the results of last year, you can say he has done nothing wrong."
