Kuldeep and Pant narrowly missed out, says Chief Selector MSK Prasad

FOLLOWING THE Indian team announcement for the Champions Trophy 2017, chairman of selection committee MSK Prasad mentioned that Kuldeep Yadav and Rishabh Pant were taken into consideration for selection but missed the cut by a whisker.

Prasad stated that the squad has not been selected based only on the performance in the ongoing IPL 10. As reported by CricketCountry, he said,

“We definitely considered the name of Kuldeep. Kuldeep would have been a surprise package. But at the same time we were not sure. We have two premium spinners. Whether he would find a place at their cost was a concern and we still have Yuvraj Singh and Kedar [Jadhav] who can bowl in the team. That was the reason he narrowly missed out. But we appreciate the way he is shaping up and he is one guy we are looking at for future.”

Prasad further added,

“I think we are completely impressed by the way Rishabh Pant is playing. It is just the combination where he missed out. He is one cricketer we are looking at for future. We are not much worried as there is a lot of career ahead of him. We will groom him and ensure he is successful in his career.”
