COURTESY OF a remarkable performance by openers Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine, Kolkata Knight Riders thrashed Royal Challengers Bangalore and won the game by six wickets.
Chasing RCB’s target of 159, Lynn and Narine registered the highest score in batting power-play as they formed a quick-fire 105-run partnership in 6.1 overs. Subsequently, KKR chased the target in 15.1 overs. And, as reported by CricketCountry, Gambhir termed the duo’s partnership as the best he has ever witnessed in his long cricketing career.
“This is the best partnership I have seen in my entire career. I have not seen such a partnership, to be honest. It was an unbelievable effort. You do not see teams getting hundred in six overs. Lynn must be the hardest-hitter in international cricket. The way he played today after coming from injury shows how mentally strong he is.”
Narine also surprised the hosts by scoring his fastest IPL half-century. He completed the milestone in just 15 balls. Speaking about the decision to make him open the innings, Gambhir added,
“It was the team management’s call [to get Narine opening]. It was some of the best hitting I’ve seen. Yes, I’m very surprised. Definitely wasn’t expecting something like this. Lynny just said, keep your eyes on the ball, maintain your focus and swing through the line. I try to keep it simple and back my ability.”
