Aizawl FC mourn the passing of supporter who suffered a fall during I-League victory celebrations

IN A BLOW TO all football lovers in India, an Aizawl FC fan has passed away after sustaining an accidental injury during celebrations held in honour of the club's maiden I-League triumph. 

Lalnunzira, a fan who traveled from Kolasib, a town more than 80 kilometers away from the Mizoram capital, was an avid fan of Aizawl FC. He attended multiple matches of the club in the I-League, and was among the thousands of people who went to welcome the team at the Lengpui Airport when they returned from Shillong with the league champions' trophy.

He followed the team as they were welcomed by people from all over Mizoram, and reached the Lammual Stadium where the players were being felicitated in front of a capacity crowd.

Unfortunately, he fell from the upper tier of the stadium during the programme. After sustaining various injuries he was rushed to the hospital. But later he succumbed to his injuries. 

Lalnunzira was mourned by the Aizawl FC fans, players and club officials alike. Wrapped up in an Aizawl FC banner, he was brought to the club office where Aizawl FC president Robert Royte paid tribute to his mortal remains. Some of the first team players were also present and paid their respects to him.

Aizawl FC fans were submerged in celebrations after winning their maiden national league title. This tragic event has plunged them into solemn mourning for a fellow fan. 

Earlier this season, when Mohun Bagan fan Soumya died of an accident, Aizawl FC fans carried his picture and mourned his loss in solidarity with Mohun Bagan fans. After Lalnunzira's passing, messages of solidarity are already pouring in from football lovers all over India, as Indian football comes together to pay their respects to a die hard fan.
