Federation Cup to get underway at Cuttack on 7th May, Star Sports to telecast every game

I-LEAGUE HAS JUST ENDED but domestic football continues and this time it is the Federation Cup. It starts from May 7 and will run till either May 18 or May 21.

Eligibility to the Fed Cup is the first eight teams to finish in the I-League qualify for competition. This year's format is unlike last year which had a home and away format. This year it is a single venue format where all matches will be played at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, Odisha.

Here is how all eight teams are placed in two groups namely Group A and B. Group A consists of teams finishing in the 1st, 3rd, 6th and 8th in the I-League. Group B has teams finishing 2nd, 4th, 5th and 7th.

Group A: Aizawl, East Bengal, Churchill, Chennai

Group B: Mohun Bagan, Bengaluru, Shillong Lajong, DSK Shivajians

Semi finals will be played on the 14th. Final will be held on on 18th or 21st, depending on whether Mohun Bagan or Bengaluru make it there (they have AFC Cup match on 17th).

Current defending champions are Mohun Bagan and Aizawl FC were runners up last year.
