UNBELIEVABLE: New East Bengal coach Mridul Banerjee injured on first day of training, club looking for replacement AGAIN

IT'S DISASTER AFTER DISASTER that's unfolding at East Bengal. Just 24 hours after signing new head coach Mridul Banerjee, the Red and Golds are once again looking for a replacement.

It happened early in the morning today when Mridul Banerjee walked out to the East Bengal Ground to conduct his first training session with the team. His foot got caught in an uneven part of the pitch and he fell badly.

The coach, who recently earned a lot of praise after helping the West Bengal state team win the Santosh Trophy, could not stretch his leg after sustaining a terrible injury, and had to be carried out of the pitch then rushed to the hospital. Scans revealed that he had a tear in his Achilles Tendon fibre.

This means the veteran coach must take a four week bed rest, which puts him out of action for the rest of the season, including the upcoming Federation Cup set to take place in May.

The club officials are now in the unfortunate situation where they must look for a replacement coach just 24 hours after they netted a good gaffer who was respected by everyone across the conflicting factions within the club.
