India SS: Saina, Sindhu, Srikanth in RD 2 while Prannoy & Ajay ousted

SAINA NEHWAL had an easy and comfortable victory over Chia Hsin Lee to enter round two of the India Superseries held in New Delhi today. A straight game victory for the World No. 9, 21-10, 21-17. Her next round opponent is Pornpawee Chochuwong.

PV Sindhu too had a comfortable outing as she defeated compatriot Arundhati 21-17 21-6. She will next face Saena Kawakami.

Men's singles shuttlers HS Prannoy and Ajay Jayaram were ousted after losing to Sourabh Verma and Viktor Axelsen respectively. Sourabh thrashed an experienced Prannoy in straight games 21-13, 21-16. The 3rd seed Dane had to fight hard in the first game 23-21 but it was an easy second game 21-17 to put Ajay out of the tournament.

Kidambi Srikanth on the other hand defeated Zhao Junpeng 21-19, 21-16 to set up a clash against Viktor.

Earlier today, Sameer Verma and Sai Praneeth too booked a place in the next round. Sameer stunned World No. 5 Son Wan Ho in straight games 21-17, 21-10. The youngster continued his good form against top shuttlers, this will help boost his confidence. His performance looked effortless.

Praneeth, on the other hand had to fight hard for his spot against Kenta Nishimoto in a three-game thrilling match 16-21, 21-12, 21-19.

In another surprise outing, youngster Rituparna Das emerged victorious against Chiang Mei Hui 19-21, 21-15, 21-19.

Meanwhile, men's doubles pair of Manu Attri/Sumeeth Reddy were ousted by Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi 21-19, 21-19. But it was good outing for women's doubles duo Ashwini Ponnappa/Sikki Reddy as they defeated Gabrielle Adcock/Jessica Pugh 21-16, 21-16 to set up a clash against 4th seeds Puttita/Sapsiree from Thailand.

Sikki later paired with her mixed doubles partner Pranaav Jerry Chopra and tasted success again as they defeated Haifiz Faizal/Shela Devi Aulia 21-15, 21-19. They next face Evgenji Dremin/Evgenia Dimova.
