Santosh Kashyap's derisive comment on Mumbai FC fans triggers universal backlash

OPENING UP ON THE IRE FROM THE MUMBAI FC FANS, Santosh Kashyap made some low standard remarks that has furious reaction from the fans. Santosh’s stoop in standard while expressing his reaction to the demands of his sacking has put him in the spotlight.

Very recently, Mumbai FC fans voiced their opinion on the alleged sacking of three crowd favourite Mumbai FC players Steven, Allan and Pratik. And the efforts of the fan were heard and the trio were brought back into the team and for this the supporters were widely acknowledged on social media, Pratik Chaudari himself being among them.

Santosh Kashyap was also accused of putting down players in the camp and known to have caused a bad mood to prevail due to his behaviour. The Mumbai FC faithful have been issuing the sacking of the coach announcement from a very long time and were very vocal in the home games with abuses and anti-Santosh Kashyap chants all throughout the recent home games.

Not just on the stands, the fans were equally vocal about their opinions on social media as well. A big bunch of the Mumbai FC supporters recently travelled to Pune to witness the ‘Maharashtra Derby’ of the I-League when DSK Shivajians hosted Mumbai. This showed the care of the fans for the club. A struggling Mumbai FC were thrashed 5-0 by the home team with Mumbai FC displaying a disappointing performance.

At the post-match conference of the DSK-Mumbai, Santosh Kashyap broke his silence on the ire of the fans against him when he was put forth the question about his feeling on the issue. He started off saying a soft reply saying,

"They started chanting positively but ended up negatively. This is my perception. They were cheering up, not me, but the players. Later on, it was the same old story.”

Santosh’s tone changed from being mild to harsh and said,

"I don’t expect them to protest this way. You must have a way to protest. They are abusing through the internet and also at the stadium. If they are uneducated and doing so, I can understand."

In his last statement, he stooped low and got personal making some derogatory remarks against the protesting fans saying,

"But they are from good families so that’s disrespectful. I believe their upbringing is a problem. They should understand that you must respect everyone in this field. I am also trying my best,"

This was crossing the limits of being decent and knowing that Kashyap holds a position of responsibility at Mumbai FC.

That hollow emotional statement from the coach had triggered the anger and integrity of many a fan, not just at Mumbai FC but at fellow club fans as well. The fans form an integral part of the club and had every right to expressing their opinion on an off the field. The fans put in their emotions for every match and the coach, with such statements had made a mockery of the fans’ feeling.

The Yellow Brigade received almost immediate of support by well-known fan clubs of India like the West Block Blues and the East Bengal Ultras and condemned the uncalled words of the coach.

This chain reaction has caused the problems at Mumbai FC to get broader reach and invited the wrath of the angered yet emotionally-attached fans. Among all of this drama, the Mumbai FC management has been a deaf listener or a mute speaker is yet not known. From the time the fans have started to come out in the open and shared their hearts about their hurt feelings, the management has not uttered a word; neither in support or against the coach.

It is high time, Mumbai FC management at least share their opinion on the whole matter, if not take a stand as the growing popularity of the club because of the fan club culture in Mumbai, make take a hit.
