UFC 209 Results: Woodley edges out Wonderboy to retain the Welterweight title

Tyron Woodley managed to edge of Stephen Thompson in a close encounter at UFC 209 to retain the UFC Welterweight championship. This was the rematch of their last encounter which took place at UFC 205 back in November, which had ended in a draw.

Woodley retained

The fight proved to be a slow one from the start itself with both fighters moving cautiously. During the closing stages, Woodley almost knocked out Thompson but just like their last outing, Thompson showed some great heart to stay in the fight and push it to a decision. Another draw was clearly on the table according to the score lines. Woodley had a 48-47 score on two cards when one judge scored 47-47.

In the co-main event, David Teymur secured a unanimous decision win over Lando Vannata and continued his good run. Teymur and Vannata got the co-main event slot after the scheduled fight between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov was called off.

Dan Kelly got a surprise win over Rashad Evans in an impressive fight. The win came via a split decision and both fighters managed to impress the fans with a hard hitting outing. Elsewhere, Alistair Overeem bounced back strongly from his last defeat when he defeated Mark Hunt with TKO in the third round.
