RPS FOREIGN ASSETS: Pune heavily reliant on showstopper Stokes & Smith's captaincy

THE RISING PUNE SUPERGIANTS released a total of 11-players from its squad in late 2016. Amongst those 11, six-overseas players to get the boot were Kevin Pietersen, Thisara Perera, Scott Boland, Albie Morkel, George Bailey and Peter Handscomb.

During the IPL 2017 player auction, RPS, who finished seventh in the rankings table, showed intent and splashed a record Rs 14.5 crore fee to acquire England all-rounder Ben Stokes. After pouring all out but Rs 3 crore of the total available purse, the Goenka-owned franchise managed to buy a total of eight players comprising two foreign players, Aussie all-rounder Daniel Christain and Kiwi paceman Lockie Ferguson.
