Shami eager to perform in Vijay Hazare trophy to stage India comeback

INDIA PACEMAN MOHAMMED SHAMI is eager to get a few overs under his belt in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, in order to stage a comeback to the national side in the last two Tests against Australia.

Shami wants to fulfil the protocol laid down by head coach Anil Kumble, which states that a player recuperating from injury needs to play domestic cricket in order to be considered for a comeback into the national team.

As reported by PTI, Shami, who has been out due to a knee injury since he played the third Test against England at Mohali in November, said that he is confident he can play the last two games for Bengal in their ongoing campaign.

“I don’t know yet but if I’m fully fit and comfortable to play, then I may play last two matches (of Bengal in Vijay Hazare Trophy in Chennai).”

It is learnt that the speedster will soon approach the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to assess his fitness. Speaking about India’s crushing 333-run defeat in the Pune Test, the 26-year-old reckoned that the hosts will make a comeback in the forthcoming Test.

“Let’s look forward, there’s still a lot of cricket left in the series. Win and loss is part of the game. We may have a bad day. Let’s not blame anyone and try to focus on the remaining matches. I’m sure we would bounce back.”
