Trevor Morgan upset with players after East Bengal fail to beat Lajong at home

EAST BENGAL HEAD COACH Trevor James Morgan expressed dismay at the way his players handled thesmselves during the game against Shillong Lajong, which the league leaders ended in a 1-1 draw.

Hosting Lajong in Siliguri, East Bengal failed to get a win out of a club that had lost all its previous away matches. A disheartened Morgan said,

"It was our worst day in this I-League campaign so far."

The Red and Golds ended their vital Kolkata Derby match against Mohun Bagan, held on the same venue, in a 0-0 draw on Sunday. 3 days later, they were held again and Morgan cited several failures on the players' part to enforce chalked out strategies as the reason behind that,

"When the cross came in from which Lajong scored, our defence was caught off guard and ball watching... our players were diverging from their own team game."

Lack of coordination and understanding between players also played a part, said Morgan,

"After the first 15 minutes, the players increasingly lost their touch. Too many miss-passes."

East Bengal are still at the top of the I-League points table with 21 points from 9 matches - still unbeaten - but Morgan said he was disappointed to miss out on the chance this game provided to extend their lead at the top,

"I wanted 4 points out of these 2 games at Silguri. Unfortunately it didn't happen."

As a coach Trevor James Morgan is yet to eke out a win against Thangboi Singto's Shillong Lajong, despite being here for a number of seasons managing East Bengal as well as Dempo SC. Missing out on yet another chance to put that ghost to rest may be part of the reason why Morgan is especially upset with this result.
