PROUD MOMENT FOR THE CAPTAIN OF INDIAN NATIONAL TEAM as he achieves yet another feat. Sunil Chhetri the veteran striker became the highest goal scorer in Indian league football history by an Indian. Chhetri who was level on the goals tally with Bhaichung Bhutia of 89 goals before going in the Aizawl FC game.
The current I-league champions Bengaluru FC were a goal down close to half time when the skipper rose to the occasion and drove in from about 20 yards from goal to score yet another of his amazing goals. This effort made him the highest scoring Indian in the league football in history. All the goals accounting from the National Football League(NFL) era prior to the commencement of I-League that replaced NFL in the year 2007.
In a star-studded career playing some of the best clubs in the country like Dempo, East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, Churchill Brothers before joining Bengaluru FC in the 2012-13 season. Currently at 90 goals, he had a chance to add another one in the last game whn he took the penalty. But was not able to convert it into a goal. Bengaluru would expect their captain to continue adding more goals to the team's tally, as this season the defending champions are dwelling mid table since a long time.
The skipper was humbled with the wishes he received for the amazing feat. To took to social media to share his gratitude.
Humbled and grateful like always on reading all the messages coming through. Never played for milestones but happy to have reached one.
