Play-by-Play: A tense goalless draw plays out between a caution EB & MB in the season's first Kolkata Derby

THE CELEBRATIONS ARE postponed and the bragging rights are on hold, as East Bengal and Mohun Bagan played out a nervy, feisty goalless draw at Siliguri in the season's first Kolkata Derby.

The game started with Mohun Bagan getting some early chances, but a couple of close saves from Rehenesh kept East Bengal in the game. The Red and Golds consistently walled off Sony Norde with two defenders and Bukenya played his best game for the club yet covering a large part of the central defence by himself.

Mohun Bagan seemed surprising better in their midfield with Jeje and Duffy taking turns to drop back and take care of things. Rahul Bheke and Nikhil Poojari kept constant pressure on the Mohun Bagan defence while Plaza and Wedson created some great chances but Debjit stood tall every time, and so did the defenders Eduardo and Subhashishs.

As the game closed in towards its end, Sanjoy Sen replaced Norde with Prabir Das, showing his intention to go for the draw. The nervous chances kept coming for both teams till the very last minute, but in the end the game ended goalless.

This leaves East Bengal still at the top of the league table, for now, as they are on 20 points from 8 games. But their 6 match winning streak is broken. Mohun Bagan are the immediate second with 18 points from 7 matches.

Here's how the match unfolded, narrated in detail in our real time match updates...
