Kolkata Derby ticket controversy resolved by quick East Bengal action

EAST BENGAL WERE FORCED to backtrack after a major printing mistake was discovered on the tickets they had printed for the Sunday's Kolkata Derby.

The ticket actually spelled the names of both of the participating sides incorrectly. The home team was listed as 'Kingfisher East Bengal Football Team'; with the word 'team' being incorrectly being used instead of 'club.'

But a larger sin was committed with the name of the opponents. Mohun Bagan Athletics Club was abbreviated down to just 'MMB' which was the acronym used when the Mariers had a sponsorship agreement with McDowell's. The logo printed on the ticket also depicted the Mohun Bagan emblem along with the McDowell's brand name.

Controversial Ticket

Mohun Bagan immediately registered a complaint with the AIFF regarding the matter. East Bengal were swift to reverse their actions, announcing that from the District Sports Office a special sticker will be issued to every ticket in order to make sure the they show the correct name. And new tickets issued for the match had Mohun Bagan's name properly spelled out.

Corrected Ticket

The East Bengal management will also publish a newspaper ad notifying fans about the mistake and its amendment.

This little episode in the lead up to the Derby almost ended up triggering a major administrative battle between the two clubs, but thanks to the quick corrective steps taken by the Red and Golds everything seems to be back on track now.
