Sony Norde wants to win the Derby for Mohun Bagan fans

MOHUN BAGAN WINGER Sony Norde made an emphatic comeback from injury yesterday when he scored a goal and got an assist in the Mariners' 2-1 win over Colombo FC at AFC Cup Qualifiers.

Now that he can put all his focus on the upcoming Kolkata Derby fixture against East Bengal about to take place on Sunday, Norde said all his energy will go towards winning the high voltage match; not for himself but for the fans.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Norde said,

"I really wanted to play this match to see how ready I was for the Derby. I enjoyed it very much. Now all I want to do is to win the Derby for the Mohun Bagan fans."

The winger said he was worried about the defensive strength of the Mariners ahead of the Derby and insisted on the need to sort themselves out,

"We have some problems at the back. We got opened up a bit too often by Colombo. Our mistakes have to be corrected in time for the Derby."

The Haitian international who helped Mohun Bagan win an I-League and a Federation Cup title over the last 2 seasons is carrying an enviable record of never having lost a Kolkata Derby game that he has been a part of. On Sunday, that record will be put to test by a ferocious East Bengal attack that has taken the Red and Golds to the top of the I-League table.
