Chennai City part ways with head coach Robin Charles Raja following disappointing results

FOLLOWING DISAPPOINTING PERFORMANCE both home and on the road, I-League rookies Chennai City FC have parted ways with their head coach Robin Charles Raja.

The club, which put together a team for the top division on short notice, started off with a draw at home against fellow debutants Minerva Punjab FC. Going ahead, they lost to Bengaluru FC, DSK Shivajians and Mohun Bagan before scoring a surprise win against Aizawl FC at home. But afterwards their form dipped again, and they lost to Shilong Lajong and East Bengal away from home; mostly due to the attack misfiring.

Today they sit at the bottom of the table with just 4 points from 7 matches and the team management has decided to do something about it. The management is reportedly unhappy with the dressing room chemistry in the team, and see Raja's failure to address the problem with the team's attack as enough of a reason to let him go. Part of what forced this decision may be Raja's decision not to play the fan favourite local striker T Raegan more often; a striker with good finishing finishing abilities who has the potential to become the missing link in the Chennai City offence.

Chennai's next game is on Sunday, at home against Mumbai FC. It is unclear whether they will be able to sign Raja's replacement before that.
