Trevor Morgan: Pleasing to watch our forwards score goals

EAST BENGAL FC ARE ON THE TOP OF THE TABLE and after a huge win against Minerva Punjab FC, Morgan spoke to the press shared his assessment of the game.

Morgan was asked if he expected his team to score even more goals. To which he replied,

"To come away from home after a long travelling day and it is tremendous how they have applied themselves in the right way. After the substitutions made, the team was a little disjointed after that."

"We can do better, have to keep striving and not be satisfied with what we've produced today (yesterday). There was a lot of good things but all a lot of things that we can do a lot better. It's good to get the three points, that was the most important thing to do, regardless of the score. To score five goals is a plus, but we can improve"

The three attackers Wedson, Plaza and Robin were looking in handsome form. Morgan was asked to share his thoughts on his strikers' performance.

"Plaza will score, he has something about him, good movement, he is a good finisher. Wedson took his goals well. Robin scored a goal similar to the one he scored last week. It is very pleasing that our forward players are scoring goals"

"But there is another side to football that is the defence. I know we have got a clean sheet but there are things that we can improve and do better"

EBFC defence never looked under threat even though there was a great bench strength. Morgan answered a quesstion if he had a tough time to pick the final 11 for the games, saying,

"When the team is winning and playing well, they more or less pick themselves. You come to a point where players pick themselves, if they don't perform, they leave themselves out. At the moment, players that have started in the second game of the season have kept their place in the team because of the way we been going"

"There cannot be any complacency, we can't allow that. When we make substitutions, the flow gets interrupted. There was an opportunity who came on today to stake a claim to get into the team. We were happy to give Robin and Mehtab a bit of a rest because we have another game coming up. Long trip tomorrow and another game on Wednesday"

Morgan was asked to share his thoughts on the Minerva Punjab team and he did saying,

"It is difficult for a team that has been assembled very quickly. The players are yet to get to know each others still. There is nothing one can do apart from believing in what you believe in and keep working hard at it until you turn the corner. They have added some good players and added some foreigners but things don't happen overnight."

He continued, "I have been with clubs that are not doing so well so I know what the feeling is like. You just have to keep working hard and continue believing"

East Bengal had a short pre-season and that showed in the first game of the season when they drew with Aizawl FC. Morgan was asked what was the challenge he face after the draw in the opening game and he replied,

"We were bit in a similar position as Minerva were. We didn't have our foreign players until 48 hours before the game, so were unable to start them in the game. In that game we played a system that really does not suit us but we had to do that. We did not have a striker so had to play Rafique as a striker even though he is not a striker. Yes, it was a bit unfair on him as well. But we did come away with a point with that."

Morgan went on to say,

"With the inclusion of the foreign players, it added a bit a spine to the team and certainly they look like the can score goals"

Coach Morgan was asked if he accepted the tag of front runners or favourites for his team, replied,

"Personally, No. Because you have seen how difficult it is to win games. We watched the Churchill vs Bengaluru game and not many people must have thought that Churchill would have won the game. We have to make sure players keep their feet on the ground and keep working hard. Don't let their standards drop and see where that takes us. It's still very open"
