PREVIEW: DSK must improve their finishing; Bagan, after last game won't take any team easy

LAST WEEK OF THE I-LEAGUE SHOWED US that football is a game of not only skill but also courage and determination. Mohun Bagan faced Chennai City in their last game and what a story of courage that is? The team from Tamil Nadu entered the field with an unshakable belief that they could win against the mighty Mohun Bagan. They matched Bagan's pace with their own without trying to contain their attack. They shut out Bagan's wingers and compressed field and gave Bagan very little space to spread the game. Bagan were stunned by the first goal scored against them, the first they have conceded in the season. Chennai had their chances to increase their lead by three folds but they failed to take those. Bagan eventually won the game by the turning in the chance that came their way. Chennai lost the plot right there. It would have been a different scenario had they scored their goal.

DSK Shivajians in their last game have a similar story of failing to convert chances. Against Churchill, they lead for most part of the game by a goal from Kim Seong-Yong. He probably scored in his fourth attempt to get that goal. Churchill scored late in the game and those missed chances by Shivajians hurt them and got just one point out of a comfortable three. Missing chances is the only hurdle that stands between Shivajians scoring against Bagan. DSK can rely on the great potential of scoring from set-pieces; they have already shown how dangerous they can be.

Bagan, after the Chennai scare, will definitely not take any team lightly. Sanjoy Sen  has put forth a word of caution to his team ahead of this fixture. DSK have the wealth of talent to knock down Mohun Bagan but need to be lethal in front of goal in whatever little chances that get or else be ready to go down like a pack of cards.

Sanjoy Sen at the pre-match press conference, spoke about the threat that DSK possess saying,

“What we have seen of DSK Shivajians is that they are a team of good, experienced players along with some promising young Indian players.”

Sen added,

“When you play an away game in this league, it is not easy. When we played Chennai City FC last time, it was not an easy game. Every match is tough and we have to fight really hard to earn three points.”

“When you are with East Bengal or Mohun Bagan, the pressure will be there. But to win a championship, you have to win as many games possible, be it at your home or away. So our focus will be to gain maximum points in every match we play”, Sen shared

"What we (Mohun Bagan) is doing is important for us. There will be ups and downs. There will be losses, draws. But what we are going to do is the most important thing.”

“Performance viz. we have been consistent, but we are to improve in our attack and defence.”, Sen concluded

Dave Rogers, Coach of DSK Shivajians, at the pre-match press conference wary of the perfect winning run of Bagan, shared,

“They are top of the League at the minute, and they’re there on merit. They’ve had a great start, and are a big club, a traditional club in Indian football. They’ve had the best start to the league, and they deserve to be where they are at the moment.”

“We’ve committed one or two little mistakes in certain areas, and that’s what we’re working on. Had we had a little more luck at the other end of the field, we’d have scored a few more goals. We’ll try and approach every football game to try and win the game. They have got a good attacking line-up like many teams in the I-League. The players have prepared well and we’re playing at home, which is good for the fans and good for the club. We’re prepared and we’ll play on the front foot, and we’ll attack it and may the best team win”
