Credit to Yuvraj and Dhoni for making team management’s vision a success: Kohli

INDIA SKIPPER Virat Kohli believes that his side played only up to 75 percent of its potential despite winning the second ODI against England at Cuttack and taking an unassailable lead 2-0 in the series.

India rode on Yuvraj and Dhoni’s 256-run partnership to fend off England in a thrilling 15-run win. While Yuvraj amassed his career best of 150, Dhoni piled a gritty 134 to rescue India from 25 for three. As reported by PTI, Kohli praised the duo for making the team management’s vision a success.

“I think we are playing up to only 75 per cent of out potential. We were wondering if we had a good start were we would have ended up…it wasn’t good batting early on.  25 for 3, scoring at four runs an over and ending up with 381 was incredible. I though 340 was par, 380 was far-fetched though they got close going hard at the start and at the end. Bowling second was pretty difficult and I was wondering how it would have been had we chased this one. Two of the greats stood up, that is what the team management envisioned [the prospect of both Yuvraj and Dhoni in the playing eleven].”

The Delhi-lad also showered praise on team’s spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja for their invaluable contribution in the team’s victory.

Speaking about the third and the final ODI scheduled to be held in Kolkata on Jan 22, the 28-year-old reckoned that the team management will have a tough time in finalising its opening pair. The Eden game will be the final ODI for Kohli’s men before the Champions Trophy 2017 which is slated to kick-off in June this year.

“The next game will be key for us with the Champions Trophy coming up. Both the spinners coming off a strong Test series has been a strong point for us.”
