SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD doubles shuttler Satwkisairaj Rankireddy plays both the men's and mixed doubles and have found success in both. The second half of 2016 was the best for the youngster and his doubles partners, Chirag Shetty and K Maneesha.

A string of International Challenge and International Series titles to their name. He recalls the moment and says that it was the best feeling ever.

"Yes indeed, it was a very good end to the year as in December I along with my men's and mixed doubles partner won 5 titles in a row. It was really a great feeling, a positive end to the year."

He further added, "It is really a good boost for me as I can start the new year with confidence and continue with the similar performance."

The lad was all praises for the doubles coach Tan Kim Her,

"Tan coach planned things really well for us, our training and performance. He pushed us to do better and help us and correct our shortcomings. He is a great coach and has played a key role in my individual growth as a doubles player."

Satwik, at present is playing in the Premier Badminton League for the Hyderabad Hunters. And this time he is getting enough game time playing alongside Chau Hoi Wah in the mixed doubles. He's on fire as he has been playing on a different level altogether. Twice he and Chau came close to winning their matches and then in the third they found success. Defeating a much higher ranked and experienced pair of Lee Yong Dae/Zieba.

Sharing his PBL experience, he said,

"It's really great as I'm getting more chances to play in the mixed doubles with all seniors and getting to learn so many things."

He further spoke about being in the same team as more skilful shuttlers like Tan Boon and Tan Wee,

"They really help me in my game plan, giving me tips constantly how to get my shots right. They are a great support system. I'm really happy to be alongside these greats."

When asked what's his immediate aim after PBL,

"After PBL, I'm playing in Malaysia (Grand Prix Gold) and I think in the first round I'll be playing Tan Wee/Goh V Shem so it's really going to be tricky and challenging. We really need to give our best and play at our higher level when we participate in the senior tournaments and if we have a chance, we should go for the win."

Ending the conversation on a lighter note, asked him, if he had to choose just one category between men's and mixed doubles, he said with a heavy pause,

"I would pick men's doubles (smiles)."
