INDIAN ACES: Hard pressed to win title, EB look to their core compatriots to bear the torch

THERE'S A GROWING amount of unrest among the East Bengal faithfuls that their club has been unable to win the league since 2003-04. Last season, we saw protests in the stadium, with some fans walking out of the stadium 13 minutes into a game to signify 13 years without being called the Champions of India.

This season, the pressure is on the club officials, more than ever before. They have got off the right start, getting the fan favourite gaffer Trevor James Morgan back for a second stint. In the transfer market, too, they have been smart, roping in some names with proven talent from the other I-League clubs.

It's this tried and tested brigade of Indian players that form the core of their team this season; a structure that was established by none other than Morgan during his last reign. In this piece, TFG takes a close look at some of these players who are likely to play a big role for the Red and Golds in the upcoming season.
