ATK keeper Debjit Majumder eyes third major trophy in 18 months

THE ATLETICO DE KOLKATA goalkeeper, Debjit Majumder, is one match away from an impressive feat.

In 2014-15, Debjit was the first choice keeper for Mohun Bagan as the Mariners won their first league title in 13 years. Next season, he was there when Bagan went on to win the Federation Cup. Now, in the first major tournament of the 2016-17 football season, Debjit is playing in the ISL grand finale for Atletico de Kolkata.

Asked by a journalist about the prospect of winning three major domestic trophies within a year and a half, Debjit was frank to admit where his priorities lay, and which titles he favoured more,

"It wouldn't be right to compare I-League and Federation Cup with ISL. Those competitions have a different flavour to them."

But while the League and the Cup, the backbones of Indian football for the last two decades, hold the greater significance in Debjit's eyes, he said he was looking forward to the ISL final as well,

"I can say that if I manage to win the ISL this year I'll be very happy."

The Mohun Bagan goalkeeper, who won the Best Goalkeeper award in I-League 2014-15, has been a significant presence for Atletico de Kolkata in ISL 2016, making a number of crucial saves to help the franchise reach the final.
