PRE-MATCH QUIPS: Guimaraes says team is well rested and will go for all three points; Zambrotta wants to top the points table

COMING BACK FROM A DEFEAT at the hands of NorthEast in the last game will be in the minds of the Delhi Dynamos.

Zambrotta spoke ahead of the game to the press. He said the team will put maximum efforts to take all three points from Mumbai.

“Of course, we will try to win tomorrow and we will try to top the table and I think it is the same case with the opponents and tomorrow let’s see what happens. We have to consider the situation regarding the yellow cards because of the semi-finals and we definitely are looking forward to the match day,” 

After a gap of almost 10 days, Mumbai are well rested and ready to take on Delhi who will try to take the lead from Mumbai. Guimaraes, ahead of the last league game of the season said,

“We gave rest to players as we had planned and we just follow our programme. After the game against Chennai we gave the players a few days off as we had planned to give, and then we started our preparation for the game and let’s say 80-90% are fit to play and they have to play”

“I am not going to rest any player tomorrow. It’s just that the players who are going to play must be 100% fit, and we hope that everything goes well tomorrow.” Guimaraes continued.

Zambrotta announced that the game will be an exciting one to watch. The Italian continued saying,

“I don’t know what will happen in the match but we would like to attack and score a lot of goals, and in tomorrow’s match if we play like we know, then we can give a good performance, and tomorrow will be an exciting and good match for both teams”

The Costa Rican on his team's recent good scoring run said,

“We have been doing well in both aspects, like we have been very offensive and we have also been defending well, so we have to continue with this kind of mentality and tomorrow we are going to try our best to play well in both departments of the game,” 

If Delhi were shaken after the last loss against NorthEast, was the question posed to Zambrotta. To which he answered, 

"We analysed what went wrong in the last match and unfortunately against NorthEast we had very low intensity. We did well in the first half but the intensity was low in our play and we need to run better and defend better, and this will be a good attitude to have for the next match and the semi-finals.”

Guimaraes whose side has been the most balanced side with regard to scoring and defending as well. He commented on the impressive statistics saying,

“I think it can be a very open game, like the one we played against Delhi and like we saw last night. When teams are liberated, then they can just play without any concerns and I hope we can tomorrow give our fans a good performance and a game which they can enjoy.”

Zambrotta enjoying his first season of the Indian Super League shared his experience with team so far saying,

”We have done a very good job in this league till now and we are focussed on finishing the first part of the season well and then we will focus on the semi-finals,”

Mumbai City has tried various permutations in the forward line to get the winning combination right. On this Guimaraes said,

“What I am very pleased about is that no matter what combination we try the players try to understand and try to do their best. We have played in different situations and with different models and I think the players have done very well and I think it is very good for us as we can change in the game from one to another and in today’s football this is very important.”


Zambrotta was asked to share his view of the Indians in the squad basis their improvement. To which he shared,

"I am very happy regarding the Indian players and I will not talk about any specific players, and during the pre-season I did analyse my Indian players as per their performance. All the Indian players in Delhi Dynamos want to learn and that is a very good attitude to have, and I am very happy about it.”
