Combat Carnival to roll out Martial Arts tournament in December

On December 10 and 11th, Bangalore will be hosting one of the largest private martial arts tournaments in the country.

CC to roll out tournament in December

GameChangers in Mathikere will play host to Combat Carnival, a multi-martial art education and competition start-up looking to engage and revive India's nascent combat sports community.

“This was something that we’ve always wanted to do. There’s a wealth of talent in this country, even in this city. People that have been devoting their lives to pursue martial arts. They just need a place to showcase their talents,” says Rama Reddy, co-founder.

Combat Carnival plans a two-day schedule for both kickboxing and submission grappling.

“In both sports, we can expect around 150 competitors.  1000 pairs of eye-balls over the course of the weekend. That’s pretty exciting.” says Rithin Ravindran, co-founder.

Why are people coming from around the country to compete?

“For this to be a feasible career, we have to offer prize money, so that people can convert their hobby to a profession.” Aritra Nandi, the third in the triad of founders said.

CC is distributing almost two lakhs in prize money, and another lakh in prize value.

"We’re looking at a truly national event here. Competitors I’m excited to see are Siddarth Singh from Delhi, Johny Ryntathiang from Shillong, Bangalore’s own Rohit Vasudevan, Biswa Dev Pattanaik from Bhubaneshwar. Along with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belts coaches Ivan Tomasetti of Italy and Rhys Dykes of Australia.” Reddy added.

This time, Combat Carnival is working with Charlie’s Animal Rescue Centre (CARE). CARE supports adoptions drives, educates the public on the importance of co-living and fights against animal cruelty.

"Combat sports empower you with a strength that helps you ‘combat’ real life issues. It's more than about punching someone in the face. We'll eventually broaden our scope and support environmental and early education NGO's." Ravindran added.

CC is funded by Byram Holdings, in the firm’s most recent bid to enter the sports industry.
