Cash crunch forces PWL organizers to postpone season 2

THE PRO WRESTLING LEAGUE has been postponed by the organizers due to the cash crunch that has hit markets after the demonetization of 500 and 1000 rupee notes. With the entire country facing a monetary chaos with limitations on withdrawal of cash and unavailability of change, the director of Prosportify, Vishal Gurnani said,

"PWL 2 is very much on track and that too in a bigger and bolder format. Demonetization has changed the overall market dynamics and keeping in mind the sentiments and interest of all the shareholders, we have decided to postpone it".

PWL 2 was set to begin on the 15th of December but is now proposed to begin on the 27th of December according to market sources. Demonetization has not only hit the public but also the advertisers as well as the franchise owners. Hence the organizers are working on new dates to enable them to work out the financials for the smooth running of the second season.

The organizers are taking their time to ensure a swashbuckling season and are going ahead with the same format as last season with six teams contesting in 18 days in spite of initially having thoughts of including two more teams.

The organizers are confident of a blockbuster season and have put up high expectations as they worked out the numbers based on last season's success.

"As we speak, our sales teams are busy working on contracts. We are expecting a 150-200% revenue jump over season 1. We have increased the ad rates from Rs 35,000 per 10 seconds in first season to Rs 55,000 per 10 seconds for this season on the basis of the ratings we delivered last year," said Vishal Gurnani, director of the sports marketing firm ProSportify that organizes the PWL along with the Wrestling Federation of India.
