PBL Auction: Marin gets the highest bid, Srikanth the priciest Indian smasher
THE AUCTION FOR PREMIER BADMINTON LEAGUE 2017 was held today in Delhi. And as expected the international stars like Carolina Marin, Jan O Jorgensen, Viktor Axelsen were bid for the maximum amount.
The Olympic Gold medallist Marin was bought by Hyderabad Hunters for a whopping amount of 61.5 lakhs while 25-year-old South Korean Sung Ji Hyun was the second highest among women shuttlers at 60 lakhs bought by Mumbai Rockets.
On the other hand, Jorgensen was taken by 2016 PBL champions Delhi Acers for 59 lakhs and Viktor was sold for 39 lakhs to Bengaluru.
Some other foreign shuttlers like Gabby Adcock and Chris Adcock will now be seen playing for the same franchise, Chennai Smashers. Gabby was bought for 26 lakhs while Chris was retained for the same amount.
Men's singles shuttler Tanongsak was bought by Chennai for 30 lakhs while Englishman Rajeev Ouseph who played a crucial role in helping Delhi win the PBL title is now part of Hyderabad Hunters (bought for 17 lakhs).
There were few surprises as well, doubles player Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen went unsold.
Among the Indian shuttlers, Kidambi Srikanth got the highest bid, 51 lakhs and is now part of Awadhe Warriors alongside Saina Nehwal who was retained.
Olympic Silver medallist PV Sindhu was retained by Chennai Smashers. She is accompanied by Arundhati Pantawane and Sumeeth Reddy among other Indian shuttlers.
While Ashwini Ponnappa was retained by Bengaluru on the other hand, Jwala Gutta was bought by Delhi for 10 lakhs.
The Bengaluru team is owned by the consortium that has invested in Kerala Blasters, an India Super League team and have been rechristened as Bangalore Blasters from Bangalore Top Guns.
