MS Dhoni most valued Indian athlete in 2016: Forbes Fab 40

INDIA LIMITED-OVERS skipper MS Dhoni is the most valued Indian athlete in 2016, according to recently released Forbes Fab 40 list. The wicket-keeper batsman has held the top spot despite a drop in his brand value. 

As reported by PTI, the annual Forbes Fab 40 list estimates the brand-value of top sports labels, athletes, teams and events. As per their reports, Dhoni’s brand value reduced from $21mn in 2015 to $11mn in 2016 and his global rank slipped fifth to tenth during the same period. However, the explosive batsman is the only Indian among the top ten athletes around the globe. 

Iconic Roger Federer tops the global charts with the brand value of $36mn. Among the other athletes on the list, Argentina and Barcelona football star Lionel Messi is ranked eighth. The legendary footballer was not a part of the list last year.

In the sports business category, Nike, ESPN and Adidas continued to hold the top three spots. And, in the sports events category, American Super Bowl football tournament topped the chart while Summer Olympic, Winter Olympic and FIFA World Cup were the next three on the list.
