Play By Play: Edel Bete's wonder saves help Pune City prevent a defeat to Delhi Dynamos

EDEL BETE HAD one of the best nights of his life as an endless steam of attacks from Delhi Dynamos failed to get them a win over Pune City, the match ending at a 1-1 draw.

The match began with the home team repeatedly invading the Pune City box, and having a number of shots on target. But Edel's presence kept the score goalless until Pune could come across some luck up front.

In the dying seconds of the first half, a great cross came in from the right flank that Jesus Tato managed to head high. It wasn't the best of headers but it beat Edel, hit the far post and went in. And just like that, against the run of play, Pune City were ahead.

In the second half, DDFC kept on attacking but they were visibly slowing down after the hour mark. Even bringing in some pacy substitutes didn't work as Pune City put bodies behind the ball and defended hard. Delhi were at their best in set-piece situations, and that's where the goal ultimately came from.

Marcelinho took a free kick from outside the box. He found Milan Singh who was relatively unguarded on the edge of the cluster. Milan took a shot towards the goal, it went towards Ferreira who jumped out of the way, and by the time Pereira could see the ball coming out of the jungle of legs it was too late. Delhi Dynamos were even, and that's where the game pretty much ended.

Neither team would be terribly happy with this victory. Placed towards the bottom of the table, both wanted a win, but because of the draw both teams are still at 6th (Delhi with 7 points from 6 games) and 7th (Pune with 6 points from 6 games).

Here's how the match unfolded, narrated through blow-by-blow updates...
