Saina appointed as the member of the IOC's Athletes' Commission

INDIA'S ACE SHUTTLER, Saina Nehwal has added one more feather to her cap as she has been appointed as the member of the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) Athletes' Commission.

The former World No. 1 received a letter from the IOC President Thomas Bach last night. Following is the statement from the letter,

"Following your candidature for the elections of the IOC Athletes' Commission during the Olympic Games Rio 2016, it is with great pleasure to appoint you in consultation with the Chair, as Member of the Athletes' Commission."

The Athletes' Commission comprises of nine Vice Presidents and 10 other members. It is chaired by Angela Ruggiero.

At present Saina is recovering from a knee injury because of which she could not qualify to the knockout stages at the Rio Olympics. She is expected to return to action November-December.

The proud father of the shuttler was very happy with her appointment.

"I have become very emotional. It is a matter of great privilege for us that they recognised her and to be a part of the IOC. They thought that she could be of some use. She lost (a medal in the Olympics) because of the injury. We are proud of her," as said to PTI.
