Don't think IPL & BBL is spoiling budding cricketers: McGrath

AUSTRALIA GREAT Glenn McGrath had recently lamented that cricketers taking part in T20 leagues were not working hard enough to make it to their respective national teams. McGrath had advised young aspirants to not get carried away by the amount of money they earn in the cash-rich leagues.

The former Aussie paceman has yet again stressed that young cricketers who take part in the T20 leagues, should not get complacent and should instead keep working hard to improve their game. McGrath also opined that the likes of IPL and BBL are not spoiling budding cricketers.

In an email interview with IANS, the Aussie veteran mentioned,

“I don’t feel it (IPL or BBL-Big Bash League) is spoiling budding cricketers. I think the important thing for budding cricketers is to always put in 100 per cent — to continue to be your best, work hard, don’t ever think you are at the top of your ability, you can always improve.”

McGrath wrote that he does not ‘miss playing cricket at all’, since he has ‘a wonderful family which takes up most of my time, along with the McGrath Foundation in Australia’.

Talking about his post-retirement life, the 46-year-old further added,

“Since retirement, I have been given me the opportunity to spend time with my family. I have three children, aged 16, 14 and one. That is what is really important to me. I have also done a little commentating in Australia and am part of the MRF academy in Chennai.”
