#TFGInterview: Willing to face Jon Jones -- in Conversation with Alexander Gustafsson

Alexander Gustafsson is among the biggest and topmost stars in the UFC's talent-starved Light Heavyweight division and has been so for a couple of years now, ever since his star-making performance against Jon Jones at UFC 167 in 2013.

However, since that fight he has lost two of his last three, with the last one being against the current champion Daniel Cormier in what was again, a closely contested battle. Gus hasn't been heard from since then a lot, but is set to make his return to the Octagon this Saturday as the UFC makes its way into Hamburg.

But before that, he during his media rounds was kind enough to take a few questions from The Fan Garage on his upcoming fight against Jan Blachowicz.

The Fan Garage: In the current scheme of things, where do you think you rank at Light Heavyweight and how do you feel your chances are to get another title shot, having lost in both of your last two attempts?

Alexander Gustafsson: Maybe after this fight or it’ll take two. I’m not too worried about it.

TFG: Jan Blachowicz, your opponent in Hamburg, is among the rising names in the division. What do you think of him as an opponent and where do you think you have the edge over him?

AG: As an opponent, Jan is a good guy with a well-rounded game. I think I’m too fast and too strong for him. I think I’m better than him in every aspect.

TFG: Just recently, Jon Jones has hinted at a comeback sooner than later, following his run in with the USADA. Do you think a rematch against him would make sense, while Daniel Cormier & Anthony Johnson fight for the title?

AG: Yea, sure whatever it takes.

TFG: There was a series of posts and news reports where you indicated leaning towards retirement. How serious were you with that and what made you reconsider a career continuing to fight in the UFC?

AG: Well I probably said that after a loss and I’m the worst loser I know and I’ll say things I don’t really mean. It’s one thing to say it and another thing to do it, this is my life this is what I do, you can’t just quit after a day like that. It hurts to lose so I’ll say sh*t like that, but I’m here now, let’s do it.
