TN TALENT: T20 league will help tap young talent in districts, says Ashwin

INDIA OFFIE Ravichandran Ashwin has conceded that he owes a lot to the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) for organising Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) in the T20 deprived state.

Ashwin, who has just returned from the American T20 tour, joined and led the Dindigul Dragons side to beat Ruby Kanchi in the seventh game of the T20 tournament. The game was held in Ashwin's home ground -- M.A. Chidambaram stadium in Chennai.

The Tamil Nadu-born spinner shocked his fans as he announced his availability on his twitter account an hour before the game kicked off.

As reported by cricbuzz, Ashwin said he is glad to see some cricketing action in the state after the debarment of Chennai Super Kings from the Indian Premier League.  He believes that the TNPL will help TNCA tap young talents in the districts.

"I owe it a lot to the TNCA for hosting this event. So it makes immense sense to come down and play today. We didn't have cricket from Chennai Super Kings for the last year and we won't have it for the next year as well. Though TN is a big state, we haven't tapped into a lot of talents in the districts. This tournament is an excellent opportunity for them to excel."

When asked about how he felt while playing at his home ground after a long time, the 29-year-old said,

"I have a lot of special memories on this ground. As a kid, I remember watching Sachin's hundred against England in 19921993 series and my 12-wicket haul against Australia in 2013 are some great memories. In fact I would take this ground in my back pocket wherever I go. I have played a lot here for Chennai Super Kings wearing an yellow jersey. It's a wonderful feeling being here.”
