Zaheer Khan likely to be roped in as India's new bowling coach

FOLLOWING THE APPOINTMENT of legendary spinner Anil Kumble as India head coach, former India pacer Zaheer Khan is likely to be roped in as India bowling coach. Sources reported that Kumble was looking for a candidate with the potential to upskill the existing bunch of bowlers.

The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman had the onus of interviewing and appointing the man most suited for the top job. However, Ganguly clarified that the CAC were not given the responsibility to appoint the assistant coaches.

As reported by circleofcricket.co, the former India captain said,

“I have no knowledge about the availability of Zaheer as the likely candidate. It is up to the BCCI to decide on the final name and the fact if Zaheer will be available all throughout the year. It is Anil’s prerogative. Since he is a bowler, maybe, he did not appoint a bowling coach. I also have read in the newspapers that he may rope in pace bowling coach later. Let me stress that Sachin and Laxman have no role in appointing Anil’s assistant coaches.”

Zaheer, who retired from International cricket in October 2015, featured for Delhi Daredevil in the latest edition of IPL. The seamer captained the Delhi franchise and picked 10 wickets.

With pacers like Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav and others in the squad, Zaheer’s key role will be to pass on his experience and help them achieve new heights in all formats of the game.
