Heard on the Stands - Chennaiyin to bring Liverpool legend & former Dynamo Riise out of retirement

CHENNAIYIN FC ARE apparently trying to bring former Liverpool, Fulham and Delhi Dynamos star defender John Arne Riise out of retirement to play for them in the ISL 2016.

Multiple reports suggest that the 35 year old Norwegian, who spent 8 of his best career years at Liverpool and earned 110 caps for his national team, is in talks with the Chennai franchise of the private tournament, and a deal may well be on the cards.

Riise was crucial to Delhi Dynamos last year. Under the coaching of Roberto Carlos, the franchise struggled to make much of an impact, but thanks to the stellar defensive leadership of Riise they managed to grind out enough points through draws and 1-goal wins for the most part to make it into the semi-finals.

After ISL, Riise went and joined Norwegian top division club Aalesunds FK. But halfway through the season he retired from football because he felt his body could no longer take the pressure of top-tier professional football.

If Riise does end up signing for Chennaiyin FC he will become another addition to a series of foreign footballers who have come out of their retirement to play in the ISL.
