Mumbai FC and longtime head coach Khalid Jamil part ways

IT HAS EMERGED that the manager Khalid Jamil is no longer the head coach of Mumbai FC. Khalid has been relieved of his duties following his failure to finish in the top half of the league. Jamil was already under pressure languishing at the bottom half of the table for most period of the tournament. But the last match win ensured a fifth position for the Mumbai side and offered a glimmer of hope in his bid to remain as the Mumbai FC manager.

After taking the helm in 2009-10 season, Jamil had lead Mumbai to an 11th place finish out of 14, which was considered a great season for him considering the limited resources at his disposal. In his second season with the club, Jamil exceeded expectations to finish seventh. The 39-year-old has arguably faced the worst complications in the I-League.

Two seasons into the league, the club had to leave their home ground for a renovation project and unfortunately ran into legal trouble. The team has finished sixth and fifth in the past two seasons, both being their highest finish in the league till that point. However, the Yellow Brigade were concerned that another season with the same manager would see them fall behind.

Deputy Vice President Atul Badgamia said,

"I would like to thank Khalid Jamil for his excellent work, first as a player, then as a youth team coach and finally as the First Team Head Coach. He leaves us with a legacy of having given several young players the confidence to show their ability on the highest stage. Khalid will always remain a much-loved, respected and significant figure at Mumbai FC. Everyone at the club wishes him all the best in the future."
