NorthEast FC seek reinforcement, sign five new players

AHEAD OF THE THIRD EDITION of Indian Super League (ISL), NorthEast United FC have announced the signings of five new players – Rowlin Borges, Subrata Paul, Sumeet Passi, Nirmal Chettri, Shouvik Ghosh.

 

 
Rowlin Borges, who has made nine appearances for the national team under Stephen Constantine will be part of the NorthEast brigade this time after being snubbed by the ISL franchises last year. It took a successful stint in the SAFF Championship and the I-League for the Sporting Clube de Goa player to be noticed by the stakeholders in the private tournament.

DSK Shivajians goalkeeper Subrata Paul is also set to the join the Highlanders. The Tata Football Academy (TFA) graduate came into limelight playing for Mohun Bagan and featured for Mumbai City in the first two editions of ISL.

The John Abraham owned franchise also closed deals on Sporting Clube de Goa striker Sumit Passi and former Kerela Blasters defender Nirmal Chettri. The Chandigarh-born Passi was in a good run of form in the I-League this season, scoring three goals in five games. Former Air India, East Bengal and Mohun Bagan defender Nirmal Chettri, who was out of action during the 2015-16 season due to a long nursing injury is set to join the Guwahati-based outfit.

Shouvik Ghosh, who has been a part of the I-League and Federation Cup winning Mohun Bagan squad over the last two seasons, has also been afforded a chance by NorthEast United to showcase his skills in the ISL after a stint with Delhi Dynamos in 2014.
