My team lacked the will to win, says DSK coach; Khalid happy with his boy's performance

MUMBAI FC were on the verge of relegation going into this match against DSK Shivajians in their last outing of the league. The added advantage for Mumbai was that they were playing on their fortress while DSK were the ones who ended their good run in the league.

The end result was in favour of the home side who were dominant throughout, thrashing their neighbours 4-0. Mixed emotions from both the coaches were seen at the post match press conference,

"We lacked the will to win. We failed to create any chances while Mumbai converted all their chances into goals. Though we tried in the second to create few chances, it was too late as the damage was already done," said DSK coach Derrick Pereira.

He further added that the team was missing their striker who missed the action due to an injury.

"We were playing without our main striker. He picked up an injury in the last game, maybe if he was there, he could have made the difference. By the start of second half the boys lost their confidence and lacked the attitude to go all in."

The midfielders let him down,

"Our midfielders lacked depth, I wish they could have done much better especially the first two goals, though we were organised we couldn't stop them from taking those shots. We could have avoided the first two goals. You cannot blame the goalkeeper as he was blinded with the crowd in front of him."

Meanwhile, Mumbai FC coach Khalid Jamil was ecstatic with his team's performance. When asked what was different from last year he said,

"This year in the middle of the season our main players were injured, Son and Taisuke. Wish they were available for the home matches against Aiwal and Sporting. Their replacements tried to give their best but were not upto the mark."

He was asked who according to him was extraordinary,

"I think everybody played their part but today there was one player who did a lot of hard work and the result was seen, Eric Brown. He played all matches from the start except in the last match, he didn't play for 20minutes. Others like Steven Dias, his experience came into play and Jayesh and Ashutosh also. Everybody gave their best."

He thanked the fans for their support as it boosted their morale,

"The support from the fans especially today was tremendous. It was a good boost for us. Whatever half chances we got we converted them all. They missed out on the chances initially but succeeded in the second attempt."

Is he happy with this season's performance, he replied with a smile,

"Happy but couldn't finish in the top four as promised. Maybe next year we will be fourth and so on from there (laughs)."

Next challenge for Mumbai FC is the upcoming Federation Cup,

"Now we are looking forward to the Fed Cup. Whatever mistakes we have committed, it is time to rectify."

Hitesh Sharma was taken off after being injured but Khalid said that he will be fine completely. Overall he was happy with the team's performance.
