I'm sure my chance will come in the shorter formats: Murali Vijay

KINGS XI PUNJAB player Murali Vijay is a regular in the Indian Test line-up, but the right-hander has not been able to cement a spot in the limited overs formats in the last couple of years.

However, a good showing in the ongoing season of the IPL will surely put him in good stead when it comes to the shorter formats of the game.

As reported by TNN, Vijay said,

"I am in a very good space mentally and game-wise. I am sure my chance (of representing India in the shorter formats) will come. I have always looked make the most of the chances I have got, and at the moment, doing well for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the ongoing IPL remains my top priority."

Vijay has so far scored 42 and 53 in the two IPL games this season against the Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiants, while in the other game against the Delhi Daredevils he was unfortunately run-out for one.

"There will be days when you get going and pile on the runs, and some--when you may not score. The trick is to back your basics and give it your best shot. As an opener, my job is to provide the best possible start for the team. In Manan Vohra, I have a partner with whom my understanding has been good and that has resulted in us doing well at the top," the 32-year-old said.

Vijay last played an international match for India in 2015 when a second-string Indian side under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahane toured Zimbabwe for a series of three ODIs and two T20Is.

His career average is 21.18 in 16 innings and 18.77 in nine matches in ODIs and T20Is, respectively.
