After Saina & Sindhu we are struggling to get a third quality singles player, says former national coach

WHEN ONE THINKS OF WOMEN'S SINGLES SHUTTLERS in India, two names strike out, Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu. They are the ones who have earned their niches competing at international level representing India. Even an ardent badminton follower in India will find it difficult to name any other badminton player in this category.

Whereas, in the men's singles category there are number of players who can take the baton ahead. Former National Coach Sanjeev Sachdev has echoed his opinion,

"After Saina Nehwal and PV Sinhdu, we are struggling to get a third quality singles player," he said to Times of India.

There is a similar problem in the women's doubles category too. Apart from Jwala Gutta/Ashwini Ponnappa, others are still struggling to find their feat in the international tourney. The Chandigarh based coach said,

"In doubles too, we are nowhere as far as world standard is concerned."

It will surely take time but players who are trying their best to be of international quality are the likes of Ruthvika Shivani in the singles category and Prajakta Sawant/Sikki Reddy in doubles category.
