It's a special feeling to train under such a great coaching staff, says MI's latest recruit Guptill

MUMBAI INDIANS reckon to have found a perfect replacement in New Zealand opener, Martin Guptill after injured Lendl Simmons got ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2016 season. The Trinidadian's injury blow impelled Mumbai Indians to acquire Martin Guptill, who remained surprisingly unsold during the player auction in February, despite being listed as one of the marquee players.

In an interview to the mumbaiindians.com, the aggressive Kiwi opener shared his excitement on joining the defending champions. With other Kiwi players like Corey Anderson, Tim Southee, Mitchell McClenaghan in the squad, Guptill said he felt a bit more at home and that it helps him keep homesickness at bay.

On being asked about his training experience under cricketing legends like Ricky Ponting, Shane Bond and Jonty Rodes, Guptill who feels comfortable being called ‘Guppy’ by MI fans, said it was a special feeling to be coached by such veterans. The Kiwi added he will be trying to learn as much as he can from them.

With a good T20 batting average and a century under his belt, ‘Guppy’, who was the leading scorer for the Black Caps in the 2015 WC, shall be looking for a repeat of a similar spell in the Mumbai Indians colour.
