I enjoy finishing the match for my team, says MI skipper Rohit Sharma

MUMBAI INDIANS SKIPPER Rohit Sharma once again proved that he leads by example in the IPL. Chasing a daunting target of 187, the MI opener came out and delivered another match-winning knock 83* to help his team beat the formidable Kolkata Knight Riders in their own backyard at the Eden Gardens yesterday.

Going into the match, Rohit was already averaging more than 150 in the last three games he played at the historical venue. Over the years, the Mumbai lad has also produced some magical IPL innings at the Eden. Although yesterday’s knock wasn’t a slam-bang one, Rohit played a responsible innings and ensured that the visitors crossed the line without much fuss.

Speaking about his knock, Rohit told iplt20.com,

"It's important that someone from Top 3 bats as deep as possible and today it was me. Once I got to a decent start I wanted to make sure I'm there for as long as possible. Nothing is as pleasing as finishing it for your team. What I did pretty well today was I planned my innings. The shot selection was pretty good. I've played a lot of cricket here. I understand the wicket a lot better.”

The 28-year-old further added that understanding the dimensions of the Eden Gardens has helped him in scoring runs.

"I understand how to score runs here, I know which are the scoring shots but it's not like every time I go out there, I will score runs. I understand how to score runs here, I know which are the scoring shots but it's not like every time I go out there, I will score runs. It's happening and as long as it keeps happening, it's good.”

The Mumbai Indians will be delighted that their skipper has found his mojo back and will be confident as they take on the Gujarat Lions on Saturday at the Wankhede Stadium.
