Malinga's injury remains a concern for the Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL-9

THE SRI LANKAN fast bowler Lasith Malinga who plays for Mumbai Indians has not featured in a match since late February. Malinga pulled out of the WT20 due to a knee injury just before the Sri Lankan side arrived in India.

The veteran bowler was not a part of the 26 member squad as Mumbai Indians practiced on Wednesday afternoon. That said, the Mumbai Indians refrained from commenting on Malinga's availability for the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, MI will be thrilled that Kiwi pacer Mitchell McClenaghan has joined the practice and is likely to be fit for the opening match.

The Mumbai Indians have always pinned their hopes on Malinga over the years and it will be interesting to see who fills the boots if the Lankan doesn't take to the field.

Mumbai Indians play their opening game of the ninth season of Indian Premier League against the new franchise team Rising Pune Supergiants at Wankhede on 8th April.
