Attri/Reddy, Jwala/Ashwini and Pranaav/Sikki enter quarters of New Zealand GPG
MEN'S DOUBLES PAIR OF Manu Attri / Buss Sumeeth Reddy sailed to the quarters of New Zealand Grand Prix Gold along with women's doubles and mixed doubles pair of Jwala Gutta/Ashwini Ponnappa and Pranaav Jerry Chopra/Sikki Reddy.
Seeded sixth, Attri/Sumeeth Reddy ousted Ronel Estanislao/Paul Jefferson Vivas of Philippines in straight games 21-15, 21-16. They next face second seeded pair of Ko Sung Hyun/Shin Baek Cheol from Korea.
On the other hand Akshay Dewalkar and his partner Pranaav Jerry Chopra had to bow out of the tournament after losing to seventh seeded pair Cheng Hung Ling/Chi-Lin Wang of Taipei 14-21, 17-21.
Fourth seeded Jwala/ Ashwini fought hard to earn a place in the quarters. They defeated their Japanese opponents Mayu Matsumoto/Wakana Nagahara in three games 10-21, 23-21, 21-15. The Indian pair next face Australian duo Setyana Mapasa/Gronya Somerville.
In the mixed doubles category, Chopra/Sikki Reddy beat Takuto Inoue/Naru Shinoya of Japan 21-16, 21-13. Their quarter-final opponents are second seeded Koreans Shin Baek Cheol/Chae Yoo Jung.
Meanwhile Manu Attri and Ashwini Ponnappa were ousted by second seeded Shin Baek Cheol/Chae Yoo Jung of Korea 17-21, 19-21.
