Unseeded Sameer stuns 4th seed to enter pre-quarters of Swiss GPG
YOUNG AND UNSEEDED SHUTTLER Sameer Verma stunned 4th seed Wang Zhengming of China to enter the pre-quarters of the Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold in Basel.
He fought hard till the end to oust the mighty Chinese in straight games 21-19, 22-20. He next faces 16th seed Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand.
Meanwhile 13th seed HS Prannoy had an easy outing against German shuttler Lars Schaenzler, defeated him in straight games 21-16, 21-13. He will now be up against sixth seed Englishman Rajiv Ouseph.
Sai Praneeth too rode on high as he deafeated Artyom Savatyugin of Uzbekistan. The unseeded Indian did not let Artyom get back in the game and won in straight games 21-7, 21-10. He next plays second seed Chou Tien Chen from Taipei.
On the other hand, it wasn't a good day for 11th seed Ajay Jayaram, who went down against Japanese Kenichi Tago, 21-23, 18-21.
