TOP SEED SAINA NEHWAL edged past Karin Schnaase of Germany with ease in straight games 21-7, 21-15 at the Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold in Basel. The first game was a cake walk for the World No. 6. In the second game, the German tried hard to get back in the match but the Indian didn't let her do it and sealed the match.

She will now face Kristina Gavnholt of Czech Republic later today and a win will be a gift to herself on as she turns 26 today.

Sixth seed PV Sindhu was put to test by her opponent from Ireland but didn't lose confidence till the end. She ended Chloe Magee's run in the campaign in straight games 21-19, 21-10 to set up a clash against Pai Yu Po of Taipei in the pre-quarters.
