Ajay, Prannoy, Praneeth & Sameer cruise into round two of Swiss GPG

THE INDIAN MEN'S CONTINGENT started their Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold on a winning note as all the shuttlers enter round two beating their respective opponents.

11th seed Ajay Jayaram had a comfortable victory 21-8, 21-17 over Jiann Shiarng Chiang of Malaysia. He will now face Japan's Kenichi Tago.

13th seeded HS Prannoy on the other hand faced a tougher challenge from his Finnish opponent Kalle Koljonen. Trailing in the beginning, Prannoy later gained momentum and went onto win the match to set up a clash against German Lars Schaenzler in round two.

Unseeded shuttler Sameer Verma defeated Emil Holst of Denmar 21-17, 24-22. The young lad overcame the challenge put forth by the Dane in the second game and sealed the match. The Indian will be put to test when he faces fourth-seeded Wang Zhengming in the next round.

Another unseeded shuttler Sai Praneeth defeated Mathias Bonny of Switzerland in a thrilling three-game match, 21-14, 13-21, 21-6. The Indian nearly managed to grab a shock exit. After a comfortable first game, the local shuttler won the second game to take it to the decider. Praneeth, then stepped up his game and eased past his opponent. He will now face Artyom Savatyugin in the next round.
