Kashyap makes a comeback with a first round win at German GPG, Srikanth & Sameer advance too

PARUPALLI KASHYAP had a great comeback after injury as the Indian defeated Ukraine's Artem Pochtarev  to move into the second round of the German Open Grand Prix Gold.

11th seed Indian shuttler had an easy outing against the Ukrainian and ousted him in straight games 21-9, 21-9. He will meet Irish qualifier Joshua Magee in the second round.

Top ranked and sixth seed Kidambi Srikanth, who clinched the Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold at Lucknow in January this year, had to fight to earn a place in the second round. Japan's Takuma Ueda tried his best to beat Srikanth but the Indian won a hard-fought match 12-21 21-18 21-11. Srikanth has now taken the head-to-head count to 4-1. He will next face Erik Meijs of Netherlands.

The unseeded shuttler Sameer Verma also notched up a comfortable win over Dmytro Zavadsky 21-9 21-8 to set up a clash with 15th seed Lee Dong Keun from Korea.

Kaushal Dharmamer who entered the main draw after he won his qualifying round went down against 14th seed Marc Zwiebler of Germany 21-4 21-14.
