Dane shuttler Carsten Mogensen stable after undergoing brain surgery

THE WORLD OF BADMINTON was taken aback on last Thursday after World no. 4 men's doubles player Carsten Mogensen of Denmark collapsed in a hotel room while playing at the 2016 European Men's & Women's Team Championship in Kazan, Russia.

He then had to undergo a brain surgery to treat the aortic aneurysm ruptures in his brain. Reports suggest he is now stable and the world of badminton including the players and fans have been sending in their wishes for the Dane shuttler.

Carsten's doubles partner Mathias Boe has been constantly updating on his health via Twitter and Facebook.

"I visited Carsten this morning. He has been moved out from the intensive care department into a private room, and everything went according to plan. He will start rehabilitation soon, and we were able to get him to sit up for few seconds," wrote Mathias Boe at their Facebook page.

Boe also stated that despite all of this, Carsten's lame humour had not left him.  After being told that not being able to sit would make flying home impossible, Mogensen replied:

“Then I will just ride a bicycle home.”

Poul-Erik Hoyer Larsen, former Danish badminton legend who is the current president of Badminton World Federation also expressed his emotions on the issue,

"I really hope that he fully recovers soon. It's unfortunate that he is suffering from such as setback ahead of 2016 Rio Olympic Games," said Poul-Erik Høyer Larsen (as told to Badminton Planet).

Despite Carsten's absence, Denmark went ahead and clinched the Championship but will be put to the test in the Thomas Cup where the Danish team is qualified as the top-ranked side.

Wishing the Dane shuttler a speedy recovery!
